According to the legend, Valentine was a priest who lived in the third century in Rome. The Emperor Claudius realised that single men were better soldiers than married soldiers, so he decided to prohibite marriage for young men.
Valentine realised about the injuste of Claudius and he continued to marry young couples in secret although it was forbidden.
When Claudius discovered the secret marriages, he ordered Valentine's death. Since then, every 14th of Febraury we commmemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death.
